Trained in law and business in Singapore, New York and Canada, Franca Ciambella is a member of the Quebec, Canada Bar and in 2010, was one of the first foreign lawyers to gain full admission to the Singapore Bar. Her legal career of 30 years encompasses 17 years of international private practice, including being the Managing Partner of the Singapore office of Stikeman Elliott and a Legal Associate at Norton Rose, seven years as General Counsel for Asia Pacific for Tyco International Ltd (a US based Fortune 500 corporation), acting as a technical advisor on regional economic integration to high levels of government in ASEAN, carrying on a mediation practice, and in 2010, founding the Singapore based law firm Consilium Law Corporation.
Franca’s areas of legal expertise are technology law, Fintech (payments, financial transactions, blockchain, cryptocurrency), contracts law, corporate and commercial law, cross-border mergers and acquisitions, and foreign investment law. Franca is accredited as a mediator with the Singapore Mediation Centre and with the ADR Group in London, UK, and acts as a mediator in various areas, including disputes involving blockchain and cryptocurrency platforms. Franca also serves as an advisor to multinational and blockchain businesses, and as a director on several boards of corporations and non-profit organizations. She has authored numerous legal and business publications, including a book entitled “Investments in South-east Asia: Policies and Laws”, as well as the Singapore chapter in “Blockchain & Cryptocurrency Regulation 2019”. She contributes regularly to various chambers of commerce publications and websites, and guest lectures to MBA and law students.
Franca has acted as the Vice President of the Canada ASEAN Business Council for four years, and was one of its founders. She sits on the boards of Canadian chambers of commerce in Singapore and Malaysia (where she is also the Vice President). A member of the Singapore FinTech Association, she presented at the Singapore Fintech Festival 2019 on the “Singapore Legal Landscape for Fintech”. As a mentor to young professional women, she has been active in New York based “Women on the Block” (technology business network now known as “Strongurl”) and is a frequent speaker on the circuit. In January 2018, she was awarded the prestigious Sovereign Medal by Canada’s Governor General (the Queen’s Representative in Canada) for her volunteerism and leadership.
