Brussels Regulation

A set of rules:


  • regulating which courts have jurisdiction in civil or commercial disputes between individuals resident in different member states of the European Union
  • governing the recognition and enforcement of foreign judgments


Came into force in 2002 and apply to all members of the EU


The Regulation is in the process of reform and in April 2011 the UK government decided to opt in and participate in negotiations on the final wording of the revised Regulation
